Never a Dull Moment

We had another busy day in kindergarten!  We worked through centers as always.  This included some addition, writing about spring, and a listening center (Mice Make Trouble).  We were able to go to the library.  It may be a while before we go back because they will be doing state testing in the library after spring break.

We tried to work in the computer lab on Lexia, but there were some problems with the internet so we did not spend as much time there as we would have liked. Right before going to art, we watched a Magic School Bus episode about weather.  After watching the video, we did a Circle Map that included everything we learned about weather.  We will talk more about weather after spring break.

At the end of the time in art, we had a tornado drill.  It was just a drill, but a few of the kids were pretty worried that it was real.  They did a great job of sitting still and sitting quietly in our shelter location during the drill.

Exciting Classroom News

Our kindergarten classroom is a busy and exciting place!

On Friday, our 4th Grade Buddies from Mrs. Melaney's class came for a visit.  We did an experiment with various solutions and marshmallow peeps.  We were looking to see which solution would dissolve the marshmallow peep best.  We learned that hot water dissolves better than soda, vinegar, lime juice, and cold water.

Today our incubator arrived!  After Spring Break, we will put a dozen chicken eggs in the incubator.  After 21 days, hopefully, we will have cute little fluffy chicks!

We will be going on a field trip to Anderson Farm on Wednesday, April 27. The cost is $6.00.  I will send the permission slip home soon.  Please return the signed permission slip and $6.00 CASH (I can not accept checks).

The tradition in my classroom is to decorate t-shirts for field day (which will be in May).  I order the shirts and supply the puffy paint we will use to decorate them during class time.  I ask that parents pay $5.00 each to cover the cost of the shirt and paint.  Watch for more information after Spring Break.

Today we read The Easter Ribbit by Bernice Chardiet.  It is a fun story about a frog who has always dreamed of being the Easter Rabbit.  After reading the story, we did a Double Bubble Map comparing the Easter Ribbit and the Easter Rabbit.

Eagle Live Cam

This afternoon as we were working, we watched the Live Cam that covers a pair of Bald Eagles in Washington D.C.  They have 2 eaglets.  One was born on Friday.  The other was born on Sunday.  We had a chance to watch both eagle parents feed and care for the babies.  It was fun to watch the tree sway back and forth in the wind throughout the afternoon.  Here is the link so you can watch them too!

Classroom News

Report cards-
Report cards are available on Infinite Campus.  We do not send a paper copy home.  There is a link to Infinite campus on the Legacy Elementary website.  If you do not know your log-in information, please contact Lynette Frank in the front office.

Expert Presentations-
On Friday I will send home information about Expert Presentations.  Each child will have an opportunity to present to the class about a topic they are an expert at.  Presentations should include a posterboard display or a tri-fold science fair display.  The children really enjoy having an opportunity to talk to the class about their topic.  Presentations start April 18 and will go until the end of the school year.  Please start the presentation research now so no one feels rushed or stressed about it.
