Oobleck!

This week we are celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday.  I love Dr. Seuss books so it is fun and exciting to share these wonderful books!  Today we did a graphing activity with rainbow goldfish crackers as we thought about the book One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.

After lunch we read Bartholomew and the Oobleck.  Ask you child to tell you about the story.  At the end of the day our 4th Grade Buddies from Mrs. Melaney's class came for a visit.  The children were given a bag of Oobleck.  It is made with equal parts of corn starch and water (simple enough!). Oobleck is fun because you are able to make a ball out of it, but as it sits in your hand, it melts and becomes liquid.  The kids had a great time with this activity!

Just a friendly reminder that Wednesday is a Late Start Day.  School will start at 11:40 and dismiss at 3:40.

Valentine Science

On Wednesday afternoon, our 4th Grade Buddies from Mrs. Melaney's class came to our classroom.  We did an experiment with vinegar, Sprite, and water to see which liquid would dissolve a small candy heart best.  It was fascinating!  We learned that soda dissolves candy hearts best and leaves little bubbles on the surface of the liquid.  Vinegar dissolves the heart, but leaves very little residue in the liquid, and water eventually dissolves the heart and leaves residue in the bottom of the cup.

Groundhog Day

Happy Groundhog Day!  Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow, so spring is right around the corner!  Please share this video with your child.  We did several activities around Groundhog Day yesterday.  Many of the kids did not know what a groundhog was or anything about Groundhog Day.  Enjoy the snow day!
