Happy Friday

We had a great day in kindergarten.  We worked through centers, as always.  During this time, I pulled eggs from the incubator and put them in an ovascope or egg candler.  We were able to see the blood vessels in the egg as well as large black blobs.  We guessed that the large blobs were chicks! It was really exciting to see.  We have chicks in most of the eggs.  Now we wait and see how many hatch.  The baby chicks are "due" on Wendesday of this week.

Since it was a cold, rainy day, we stayed inside for recess.  The kids had a great time building and playing.  They were really proud of their work and wanted their pictures taken.  Here are a few of the pictures.

Anderson Farm

We had a wonderful day at Anderson Farm!  Many of the children were riding the bus for the first time.  We learned about how pumpkin plants grow, went on a tractor ride out to one of the fields to plant pumpkin seeds, fed the goats grass pellets, and played in the play area after eating lunch.  What a wonderful experience!

A Busy Time of Year

Thank you to everyone that has turned in the permission slip and admission money for the field trip to Anderson Farm on Wednesday.  Remember to wear weather appropriate clothing and good walking shoes (sandals are a bad idea).  Each student will also need to bring a sack lunch because we will be eating lunch at the farm.  It will be a fun trip!

Thank you to those who have turned in the money for the field day t-shirts.  I plan to order the shirts tonight.  The $5.00 pays for the shirt and the paint used to decorate them.  This is such a fun way to remember kindergarten!  I know children who wear this shirt until it either falls apart or they out grow it.  These shirts often make it to the keepsake box.

Today we had three Experts Present information to the class.

B. taught the class about tornadoes.  This was such an exciting topic and the audience had trouble sitting quietly to listen to the presentation.  They needed to ask their questions.

C. presented information about Mario Bros. on Wii U.  His presentation was detailed and included all the information you would need to rescue Princess Peach.

B. taught the class about healthy foods and unhealthy foods.  Her poster included a plethora of examples!

More Experts

Three more Experts taught the class about their topics today.

K. taught the class about elephants.  They are amazing animals!

A. explained the difference between butterflies and moths.  Each child even had an opportunity to look at a butterfly and a moth with a magnifying glass.

A. Taught the class about photography.  The children were especially interested in the film negative.  It's not something you see frequently.

Busy week!

After centers and recess, the class enjoyed a scoop of ice cream.  The children chose from vanilla, chocolate, and rainbow sherbet ice cream.  It was tasty and delicious!

I hope your work on the Expert Presentations is going well.  Presentations start on Monday.  I am really excited about the Presentations!  Thank you for your support and help with these!

Stay warm and dry this weekend!

Always an Adventure

In addition to being a late start day, the kids had the opportunity to go to art.  We normally do not go to specials on late start days.  After that we talked about and prepared for the evacuation drill.  We left the classroom, went to our fire drill location and then walked to the Town of Frederick Public Works building.  The kids kept up with their 5th grade buddies, sat quietly as the rest of the school entered the safe location, and continued to sit silently while we waited for the students in front of us to leave on the way back to school.  I am so proud of them!  They did an outstanding job!  As a reward, I will bring ice cream in on Friday!

Classroom Update

Welcome back from Spring Break!  It was so nice to see all the kids this morning!

In preparation for the arrival of our eggs on Wednesday, we spent some time today talking about animals that lay eggs.  The children came up with a great list of animals!  We wrote it down in a Circle Map.

Wednesday is a Late Start Day, so school will start at 11:30 and we will dismiss at 3:40.  In the afternoon, the entire school will be participating in an off-site evacuation drill.  We will be walking to the Town of Frederick Public Works Building, and then will return to school before dismissal.  Please be sure your child is wearing weather appropriate clothing and comfortable walking shoes.

Wednesday will be an exciting and busy day!
